[ So they have a cat now. Well, more specifically, it's Ignis' cat, him being the one who's adopted the cat and named her. She's Pearl, the newest addition to their little family and so, so very gorgeous and feisty that Noctis is immediately enamored.
When they head back to Chroma, settling back into the home they've made for the past few months, Noctis is more than happy to play with the cat, setting her up in their room while Ignis makes the coffee. Rubbing her under her chin absently, he's plucking different makeshift toys for her to play with and inspect. First being a small vial of something or other that belongs to Ignis. It looks harmless enough, right? ]
You know, I think we're gonna eat like kings for awhile. Look at all the fish we had to lug back.
[ And for a weird little pocket... whatever it was, it's pretty impressive. ]
[He's not at all a cat person — not in the way that Noctis and Prompto are, at least — but when the question had arisen of whether or not to bring the cat along with them upon their departure from Galdin Quay, it had truly seemed to be a no-brainer to simply scoop the fuzzy little darling up and carry her along with them. And now here she is, white-furred with black feet and face, and Noct is already doting on her, which seems to be the appropriate state of things.]
And I'm so pleased for it, too. Between the fish you caught and Coctura's paella, that was a vacation well worth making, I think.
[Especially for the paella. He's humming as he gets his coffee together.]
[ In between all the trips to and fro, Noctis had gotten at least four, five portions of the paella for Ignis -- he knows that he enjoys it so, the problem is whether it'll stay fresh or if Ignis has to eat it up all at once.
In between playing with the cat, and scrunching up his nose when Pearl licks it, Noctis turns briefly to him. ]
In the armiger, perhaps. But I'll have to enjoy it sooner rather than later, regardless, I think.
[He heads back over, bearing two cups of coffee, which he sets down at the table — one at his place, one close to Noctis. And he's just going to sit down when a thought occurs to him: ]
Ah. Nearly forgot your cream and sugar.
[And off he goes, back to the kitchen to find that.]
[ Cream and sugar, his very lifeblood to just about wipe the unpleasant taste of coffee from the beverage itself. Why drink it then, one might ask -- for vanity, of course, and the fact that he is very much an adult.
So Noctis goes back to playing with Pearl -- unfortunately, Noctis had been distracted by the laptop, and he'd popped over to answer a few of the comments that had come in. In the meantime, of course, Pearl had tipped over one of the vials she had been playing with, adding a splash of liquid into Ignis' coffee.
Noctis, alerted by it but none the wiser, only got up to cap the vial again, gently nudging the cat away from the coffee and the vial. He sets it aside, scooping her up to play with her on the bed while he waits.
[And no one is any the wiser, as Ignis returns with cream and sugar for Noct, and passes them over before moving to his chair and taking up his own coffee cup.]
She likes you, I see. But then, you always have had a way with cats.
Noctis gives him a crooked smile as Pearl meows, leaping off the bed to rub up against Ignis' legs fondly. Noctis pours the milk and sugar into his with reckless abandon, stirring it and taking a sip. Mmm, that's good. ]
I could say the same for you, too. Maybe you have a soft spot for a cat other than me?
[And yet he still reaches down to pluck up the cat and settle her in his lap as he takes his second fateful sip, followed by his third.]
You've not noticed her harassing Dex's chickens, have you? I would assume she'd be as disinterested in them as she is in unprepared fish, but one never knows.
She was licking Leliel. I think she was grooming her.
[ And Noctis, worried that the cat might bite, had his fears unfounded because apparently Ignis' conclusion is right -- the cat has no interest in anything that's unprepared.
I suppose she'll do. As will you — I'm rather stuck with you as well, aren't I?
[He smiles softly, turning his attention down to Pearl again as he strokes his hands through her fur, and when he opens his mouth he probably means to say something else, but what comes out is —]

[ Noctis stares at him, wide-eyed from start to finish. That was... uh. Ignis has never really sung all that much before this, and definitely not in front of company. Pearl, for one, has gone still, looking up at Ignis beadily in an uncanny likeness of a fascinated Noctis. ]
I'll thank you kindly not to look at me like that.
[From the clipped edge in his words and the way that he abruptly looks away, most people might think Ignis is annoyed or even angry at the moment; Noct, however, stands a much better chance of knowing his tells, and the fact that this isn't annoyance — it's fluster born of awkward embarrassment that he's trying his damnedest to hide.]
And I'm sure I have't the slightest idea what that was all about.
[ Awww, now he's shy! Noctis is quick to put things together, however -- Pearl had knocked over the vial of something and Noctis had put it away, but perhaps some of it had gone into the coffee. He glances over at the vial, then at the coffee, then back to Ignis.
But oh, this is hilarious and lovely and he hadn't known that Ignis could hold a tune, much less sound so good singing. ]
[ Noctis only feels a little bad that he's pretty much egging Ignis on because he has a vague idea of just what happened -- but Ignis' voice is a gift, and he doesn't quite it let go, even if Pearl has taken to licking Ignis' fingers absently. ]
Has anyone ever told you what a good singer you are?
...I see we're not going back to discussing the cat, then.
[He sighs, taking another drag on his coffee for good measure, and lets the cat curl its tongue around his fingers for a little bit before moving to stroke the fur of her head.]
And to answer your question, I suppose that would necessitate them having heard me sing, first. Which they wouldn't have.
[ Gods, but his voice is like honey and chocolate and silk wrapped up in each other, and Noctis is listening, entirely entranced by him. As if it's even possible to have a crush on him all over again, right? Because for some unfathomable reason Ignis kind of really likes him back and lets Noctis kiss him.

[ Noctis says warmly, before he gestures to the coffee, unable to keep it from Ignis anymore. ] Can't be sure, but I think Pearl accidentally tipped some of the vial's contents into that.
[Like before, someone who hadn't spent seventeen years of his life with Ignis might miss the nuance here, and simply assume that he's angry; really, though, the emotion here is more a combination of disbelief and exasperation.]
[ Noctis says, not all that apologetic -- he's more amused than anything; and oh, how he can read his Ignis better than anyone else, especially the thread of disbelief and exasperation lining his words. Ignis isn't angry, not really, and he's leaning forward to kiss him softly, while Pearl impertinently nestles against Ignis, an unwitting perpetrator of this particular crime. ]
