[ And he, too, isn't going to take this for granted. Noctis makes a soft, half-hearted protest when Ignis ruffles his hair, but he doesn't otherwise pretend that he hates it. No, a week of not being able to talk to Ignis and Prompto has made him entirely miserable, and he's not going to miss this chance. Especially with Ignis -- endlessly thoughtful in ways that sometimes inexplicably makes his heart skip a beat. ]
Nooope.
[ Noctis grins. Trust Ignis to think about other people first, rather than himself. He opens up his palm, revealing half a dozen coffee beans sitting in his palm, fragrant and rich. He meets his eyes, excited, eager and happy. ]
[He's mildly surprised, at first, to see Noctis looking so delighted about what are, to all appearances, beans. They are, after all — well, beans, and it's not as though Noct has never expressed his sentiment on those a thousand times before.
But then a whiff of the aroma makes it to him, and he instantly recognizes the strong, comforting fragrance, and it stops him dead in his tracks as he glances up and finds Noct's mirthful, enthusiastic eyes waiting for him.]
[ And Ignis' expression is worth it, worth all of it when he realises what it is. Noctis' smile widens, delighted by Ignis' surprise, and he would gladly make a thousand wishes for Ignis' sake if it means he gets to see the look on his face, just like this. ]
There's plenty more where this came from.
[ He shifts his new backpack -- ] Five pounds of it, all fresh. Sorry, though. Prompto's polaroid camera was mixed in it for a bit when they gave it to me.
[He looks a touch alarmed at that, and momentarily foregoes even the beans for the sake of stepping forward and giving Noct a look-over, openly fussing but at least with a light and reasonably gentle intent.]
And you've not suffered any ill effects from that? Prompto and I had hypothesized that there was some connection between the use of the coin and a negative penalty...but you don't seem to be any worse for the wear for it.
[Moderately pacified, he gives the backpack a glance.]
— Clever. You wished for a backpack with items inside, making it a single wish instead of multiple ones?
[ Noctis frowns -- if he'd known that it was possible for the coin to have drawbacks, he wouldn't have -- oh, who's he kidding, he would've done it anyway, if it means that Prompto and Ignis can have something they've wanted all alone. He settles at the fussing, the wind back in his sails when Ignis, pacified, gets on with the praising. ]
Yeah, that really was smart, wasn't it?
[ He's so pleased with himself -- not so much the cleverness (although that is a factor) but the fact that he managed to get both of them something. And he got a backpack out of it, too. He doesn't know what they can do with it, considering the armiger, but it never hurts to have something just in case. ]
I'm just glad they granted it. [ He's taking Ignis' hand, gently tipping the six beans into his palm. ] It's all yours now. D'you have a container to put it in?
[He takes the beans, gingerly raising them up to his face for a breath of that rich coffee aroma that he's been craving for so long, and only belatedly realizes that he can still feel the phantom echoes of Noct's fingers where they'd pressed against the back of his hand, whispers of tactile memory clinging just a little longer than they probably should have.
Curious.]
I'm sure I've something with the rest of the cookware. Let's see what we can scrounge up, shall we?
[Heads up, that means pulling the camping stove out of the armiger.]
[ It's something new, watching Ignis thoroughly enjoying something as simple as coffee beans. It wouldn't have come up back in their world -- and the look of profound enjoyment on his oldest friend's face is something that inexplicably makes Noctis' breath catch (has he always been this good-looking?).
He's still staring when Ignis speaks up again, but nods quickly and shifts the bag off his shoulder just so he's doing something, anything, not gaping like a dumbass at the person he's known all his life. ]
Uh -- yeah. Cool.
[ He says quickly -- so what if their cookware's probably going to smell like coffee for awhile? ]
You know, we can use some beans to grow some coffee plants.
Mmm, was that your intent. Finding a way to make coffee a renewable resource?
[Idly, he pops one of the beans into his mouth and starts to chew it as he works, digging around in the cooktop storage until he finds a few of the deeper containers he's used before. Tugging the top off of one, he holds it open for Noct in indication.]
I think we'd best fill it by handfuls first, rather than trying to just pour from the backpack into the tins. It'd be a shame to waste any by mistake.
[ Noctis makes a face when Ignis pops a bean into his mouth because bleargh, coffee already tastes gross in liquid form. ]
Are you sure you can eat it like that...?
[ But yes, that was what he wanted to do! So he shakes off the fact that Ignis just ate a bean and moves on with him, them taking the cookware back into the house. Noctis sets the backpack on the table and scoops up the beans carefully, tipping it into the container. ]
Yeah -- and maybe plant a row of them too, huh? Got any space left on the farm?

...Is that what I think it is?
[Like he almost doesn't dare to believe it.]
How did you —
