You should try riding one sometime. Chocobo racing is actually quite popular, where we're from; though ours aren't explicitly bred for racing, they're fairly capable of holding their own both in sprints and in distance travel.

I suppose the best analogy I can offer is that of an administrator on a program that serves some particularized function. The creator of the program maintains the program, but it's possible to add sub-users onto it. The sub-users can access the program and its benefits, but it's not ours, per se.
